Statement of support to the wine workers of Delheim
DFSA, union of sales staff at the Swedish Alcohol Retail Monopoly Systembolaget, sends this statement of support to the wine workers of Delheim, South Africa.
We are very upset to read about your terrible working conditions, extremly low wages and about the forced evictions from your homes. We sell hundreds of bottles of Delheim wines every day in our stores. We are also upset to hear that our employer, Systembolaget, will not demand of Delheim that your work conditions must improve.
It should be the duty of Systembolaget to put pressure on Delheim to help you. No wines sold in our stores should be produced through inhumane exploitation of workers. Systembolaget is the national alcohol monopoly in Sweden and one of the world largest buyers of wines and spirits.
The wines of Delheim are sold in big quantities at Systembolaget. As workers we feel solidarity with you and wish to help to improve your working conditions in any way we can, for exemple by protesting in order to make our employer to put higher demands on their subcontractors, (including Carovin AB, buying wines from Delheim) .
All wines that we sell in our stores should be produced with decent working conditions for the workers! Please tell us of if there is anything apart from the above that we can do to help.
Best regards
